As high concepts go, Edge of Tomorrow has one that is delightfully
simple. In the near future, a recently demoted soldier named Cage (Tom Cruise)
finds himself doomed to repeat the same battle over and over again, waking up to
restart at the exact same moment every time he is killed. Not only must he
learn from his mistakes to survive a bit longer each time, but he must also
figure out why this is happening to him and how he can use this new power to
his advantage.

Film Review: X-Men: Days of Future Past
On paper, the combination of the old X-Men (that were in
established way back in Bryan Singer’s 2000 film) and the new (the cast of the Matthew
Vaughn directed prequel X-Men: First Class) is an enticing prospect. The
thought of two different generations of X-Men and, in some cases, renditions of
both the older and younger versions of the same character in one movie, is a fanboy’s
dream.

Film Review: Godzilla
Rather than comparisons to the widely panned debacle that
was Roland Emmerich’s 1998 effort of the same name, Gareth Evan’s version of
this Toho classic bears more similarity and is a logical step up from his
previous film (and directorial debut) Monsters.

5 Reasons Why You Have to Watch... American Horror Story (Season 1)
Wait, no actually that's a lie – I did a similar thing (kind
of) for Luther a while ago, which you can read HERE. Anyway, I holed
myself up the other weekend and sessioned the whole of the first season of American Horror Story.
Wait what? Don't you hate American series? Aren’t they
usually always overlong and drawn out in your opinion?
Yes, yes - but hear me out! The first Season is worth
watching for the following 5 reasons. Check them out below.

Film Review: Transcendence
It’s a shame that for such an interesting premise (a dying
man’s consciousness gets merged with an experimental AI in an effort to save
him), the end result is somewhat underwhelming.
The problem with Wally Pfister’s directorial debut (most
known for his work as the DP on several Christopher Nolan films) is that it severely
lacks focus. Transcendence is not quite a decent sci-fi, not quite a
techno-horror and not quite a love story. It pushes in all three directions at
times – but never quite succeeds as any of them.

Double Dose of The Amazing Spider-Man 2
This
week on Double Dose we have the second part of Sony's rebooted Spidey
franchise: The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Film Review: The Amazing Spider-Man 2
You’d think that with all the set-up out of the way, this
sequel to the 2012 reboot of the Spider-Man franchise would be a lot more focused and succinct. Well it is and it isn’t.

Film Review: The Raid 2
The
sequel to Gareth Evan’s breakout hit The
Raid (AKA The Raid: Redemption)
continues the story of cop Rama (Iko Uwais) a mere two hours after the closing moments
of the first film. And, story-wise at least, that’s pretty much all the two
films have in common.

Film Review: Noah
A big budget film of a well-known biblical tale, directed by
one of the most interesting filmmakers working in Hollywood today, is guaranteed
to receive all sorts of attention – both good and bad.
In other hands, this could have been a disaster – either a
generic Hollywood-ised action ‘re-imagining’ that takes too many liberties with
the source material or, on the opposite end of the spectrum, a preachy and steadfastly
literal interpretation of the story that we all know so well anyway. The end
result is, rather refreshingly, something in-between, yet at the same time
still capable of surprising you with the unique direction it has taken.
